In Podgorica from 3rd - 6th March was held an intensive training entitled Gender equality and gender mainstreaming. The training was carried out as part of the project Time for women's rights and gender equality in Montenegro, supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Slovenia - Slovenian development cooperation and the Republic of Slovenia. The participants had the opportunity to expand their knowledge through teamwork and practical group activities in the areas such as concept of gender equality and gender-sensitive language, use of selected gender mechanisms applied by civil society organizations, integration of gender equality in the work of their organizations as well as methods and tools for the transfer of knowledge in the form of their own training in the field of gender equality and gender mainstreaming.
As key challenges that the Montenegrin society is facing when it comes to gender equality, the participants stated following:
- absence of this issue as a priority question at the level of society and everyday politics
- lack of interest coming from society and lack of information on these topics,
- poor implementation of existing laws regulating these issues primarily by institutuins
- society which is still based on a patriarchal double standards which complicates the situation of women.
Training Gender equality and gender mainstreaming, organized by the Institute for Public Policy and Ekvilib Institute in Ljubljana, produced the first pool of trainers who will in the future implement their own training within institutions, civil society and academia.
